When it was announced that we were going to get a new version of British spy thriller, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, it didn't create much excitement. While it had been a successful mini-series back in the late seventies, it didn't feel like anyone was really clamoring for another adaptation.

However, when Tomas Alfredson, the director of critically-acclaimed vampire flick Let The Right One In, was announced as the person helming the movie, along with a stellar cast that included Gary Oldman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy, it's safe to say that interest in the film picked up.

Any misgivings about it were quickly squashed, as the remake turned out to be far more enthralling than the original. Filled with suspense and mystery, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, did a wonderful job of creating the sort of paranoia needed for a film like this.

Although it's not solely down to him, this level of paranoia was assisted by the brilliance of Oldman's performance as we see the film from his perspective. Watching him as he tries to deduce who the spy is within the British intelligence community is some of the finest acting you'll see from the legendary actor and helped significantly in making it the critically-acclaimed movie that it is.
