10 Most Intriguing Short Films Of 2015 (So Far)

7. Love Is Blind

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMJun4ZuYpo Dan Hodgson€™s farcical comedy about infidelity, lust and hiding in plain sight is one of those short films that both works perfectly at the form and length (about six minutes) that it takes, but could easily be manipulated into longer material: it€™s a brilliant demo tape for a prospective feature director. Alice is in bed with her younger lover when her other half comes back early, resulting in her hiding the boy toy under the bed. Wracked with guilt as well as terrified that he€™ll be discovered, the stage is set for a comedy of errors, as her partner may well have an indiscretion of his own to feel guilty about. The sparkling Sophie Allen is the pillar holding the film together, but her supporting cast, partner Ace Mahbaz and lover Will Best are perfect foils: there are no weak links here, not least in the direction. Hodgson€™s script is great €“ his use of the camera is even better, the shifts necessary to keep Best secret from Mahbaz seeming wholly natural, almost seamless. Love Is Blind is a remarkable, tight and cheerful comedy about people doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, and vice versa.
