2014 was an incredible year for film. Unless, of course, you work at Sony Pictures. For everyone else cinema was an enthralling experience and possibly beat 2013 in terms of the level of quality from film to film. 2013 might have had Gravity, 12 Years A Slave, The Wolf Of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club but 2014 had the surprisingly good The Lego Movie, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Boyhood, Nightcrawler and Gone Girl. Yes, it's been a couple of good years for the film industry, at least in terms of the standard of film that is being released. Some of those aforementioned films will become classics in years to come, forever lionised and championed as great examples of cinema done right. 2013 had its fair share of overlooked films, too. Byzantium slipped under the radar, Only God Forgives wasn't forgiven by a lot of critics and American Mary was too weird to get a wide release. These are all good films and all of them were only seen by a fraction of the audience they should have been seen by. This happens every year, without fail. When it comes to December and Oscar buzz is in full-flow and people are compiling their 'best of' liststs there are inevitably some great films that won't even be brought up. This could be because people have either forgotten about them, didn't know they exist or they're just too afraid to go against the grain and admit they actually liked them. There was no shortage of overlooked films in 2014. Here are ten of the best that you might not have seen but need to ASAP.
