10 Most Overrated Movies On IMDb's Top 250

5. The Dark Knight Rises (#66)

Coco Pixar
Warner Bros. Pictures

The Dark Knight Rises’ main flaw is that it was the follow-up to one of the best movies ever made. Christopher Nolan had a lot to live up to, and while the concept of bringing in one of the few enemies Batman can’t beat was a good idea, it just couldn’t top Ledger’s Joker.

It’s hard to imagine Ledger’s Joker will ever be topped. So when Rises released and was still hailed as great if not better than its predecessor, it was a little confusing.

Because in truth, Rises may be the worst of Nolan’s trilogy. After reinventing the superhero genre as something dark and mature in The Dark Knight, Nolan tried to continue with an equally gritty Rises, but the film comes across as bland and humourless. At nearly three hours long, too, the film is slow and at times a little boring.

Some political commentators even accused the film of taking a conservative agenda by condemning Bane’s far-left politics. It’s a big letdown after The Dark Knight, and simply not as tightly-wound as Batman Begins, and it doesn’t belong this high on the Top 250.
