If watching your own mom die in front of you wasn't bad enough, having an emotional breakdown only for freaking aliens to come and steal you into the sky really is adding insult to injury. There's a time and a place guys, can't you give poor Peter Quill five minutes to process losing his mother before throwing him into a life of space crime surrounded by angry blue folk?

Guardians of the Galaxy might start off incredibly sadly, but the hook is undeniable. From the first few minutes alone we're introduced to a walkman obsessed, emotionally repressed boy abducted by aliens - reinforced in the '26 Years Later' scene where we find Quill dancing his way through dilapidated planetary ruins. Kicking space rats to the tune of Come And Get Your Love is always a winner, let's be honest.

All in all, it's a fast pasted introduction that lays out exactly what we're going to get tonally, whilst remaining unpredictable in all the best ways. If a child can go from screaming at his mother's death bed to giving the moon walk a whole new meaning, then we know we're in for a wild ride for the rest of the film.
