The Line: 'Get off my plane'

Air Force One is a film that is so patriotic Americans must stand to attention any time it graces their screens. This age old story of a world leader defeating terrorists single-handedly was even praised by then President Bill Clinton. The narrative follows POTUS James 'asskicker' Marshall as his plane is overrun by an unseemly group of Russians lead by Gary Oldman. This just won't do and the President resolves to take matters into his own hands and destroy all of the terrorists himself. This symbolic conflict between 'Murica and Russia deserved to be capped off with an awesome one-liner, Ford played Han Solo for god's sake he's a quip machine. In my opinion they wasted the opportunity. I'm sure many people will disagree with this choice but I'd say when he tells Oldman to 'get of his plane', it undercuts all of Ford's previous action glory and makes him sound like a fusty old codger. This line is frequently part of lists which celebrate awesome action quotes but I don't see it as one to be celebrated. Sure it's to the point and Oldman promptly obliges by flying out the back of Air Force One and snapping his neck but I think, as a one-liner, it's highly overrated. The film as a whole is excellent but when you're closing statement to your nemesis sounds like you're telling the neighbourhood kids to get of your lawn, you're not doing it right.
