10 Most Ridiculous Horror Movie Plot Twists

5. The Visit (2015) - Not Real Grandparents

Half-way through, and already another Shyamalan entry? You can’t argue, the guy likes his twists and not all of them are winners.

One such stinker comes in the chillingly wrapped packaging of The Visit. The 2015 movie follows young siblings Becca and Tyler going on a visit to their estranged grandparents’ house while their mother goes on a cruise. Becca and Tyler had never met their grandparents before, so when the seniors start acting strange in a projectile-vomit, knife-wielding, soiled-diaper-pile-in-the-garage sort of way, the kids begin to have their doubts. Finally, the children show the supposed grandparents to their mother on video-call to which she remarks, “Those aren’t your grandparents.”

We discover that these usurpers are, in reality, escaped mental patients who killed the kids’ real grandparents and took their place. Though suitably shocking and definitely unsuspected, this entry earned its place here simply for how monumentally implausible it is. Not only do these kids ‘happen’ to have never seen a single photo of their grandparents, but one would think that at some stage before the climax of the movie, someone would have called their identities into question.
