Boy-howdy this is an uncomfortable one, so strap in. Firstly, what comes to mind when you hear the term orphan? Is it a rosy-cheeked, red-haired, singing little girl with a pet dog? Prepare for that image to be replaced by a thirty-three-year-old psycho with proportional dwarfism, because that’s what you’re in for if you decide to watch Orphan.

After suffering the devastating loss of a baby, couple Kate and John decide to adopt from an orphanage. The girl who they choose is Esther, a nine-year-old from Russia. Esther fits right in alongside the couple’s 5-year-old daughter, though their slightly older son, Daniel, is more reticent.

Can you guess what happens next? Correct, Esther starts acting creepy as hell. She spies on John and Kate having sex, she attempts to smother Daniel, and she engages in some very uncomfortable flirting with John. Oh, and she murders a nun. Needless to say, Kate grows sceptical, and after doing some digging eventually uncovers that Esther is really Leena Klammer, a thirty-three-year-old with a rare hormonal disorder that makes her look like a child.
