10 Most Ridiculous Moments In Spider-Man Movies
4. Pathetic World Building (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)
After the success of The Avengers, it's clear Sony wanted a piece of that shared universe pie, and Spider-Man is certainly one of the few heroes who has a cast large enough to build a world like that around him. Unfortunately, the studio didn't quite understand how or why Marvel's experiment worked and proceeded to throw everything at the wall in the lamest attempt at jumpstarting a franchise until Dark Universe.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is absolutely littered with references and hints at potential future movies. There's the Doc Ock arms and Vulture wings in the Oscorp mystery room, Harry potentially starting up the Sinister Six, that Shadowy Hat Guy from the first movie wandering around who's supposed to be this really obscure Spidey villain (and his deal was what again?), some guy called Dr. Kafka who is the direct opposite of the Dr. Kafka from the comics, and Felicity Jones playing Felicia Hardy in a really pointless extended cameo.
All of these disparate attempts at world building feel more like brand management than a sincere attempt to appeal to fans or set up a universe, and their inclusion only adds to the wildly uneven plot of the film.
The end result was so confusing that Sony decided to scrap all their elaborate plans for sequels and spin-offs and team up with Marvel for Homecoming...but now it seems they might have changed their mind. Seriously, is anyone asking for Black Cat/Silver Sable movie?
