M. Night Shyamalan is the human equivalent of that “never let them know your next move” meme.

Just when it seems like the master of the twist is on a run of great movies again, he goes and does something really dumb. Cast in point - 2021’s Old, where the main antagonist is a holiday spot.

A divorcing couple take their young kids on one last family vacation to a luxury hotel. They get recommended a private beach by the manager, which they visit the next day, only to discover that it’s all a trap.

As they soon discover, the idyllic location hides a deadly secret - it ages its inhabitants at the rate of one year every thirty minutes. Horror ensues as the kids quickly become teenagers, adults become the elderly, and the elderly become… well, you can probably figure that out.

The beach is actually a front for a drug company, which is able to accelerate its testing process due to its supernatural ability. It could be argued that they’re the real baddies, as they sent the unfortunate souls there, but it’s still the beach that does all the killing.
