8. Hearts On Fire - Rocky IV
Montage Type: Training Rocky V was made at a period in history when everybody was frightened that Russia was going to nuke them at any given moment, so it's no surprise that the movie encompasses that universal fear in the form of villainous boxer Ivan Drago, who exists to get beaten down by Rocky's triumphant American fists. The Rocky franchise is, without a doubt, the movie series most associated with its montages. Rocky V's montage is one of the best and most ridiculous of all. Take a look. See that imagery? See what's happening here? Rocky is training out in the wilderness, getting intimate with nature, growing a beard, whilst Drago - the bad guy, remember - relies on machines to help him get fit. Boo! Machines! Technology! Subtle, huh? The fact that Rocky trains mostly by chopping wood with an axe whilst Drago actually trains for real means that Drago would probably have been at an advantage, but the message here is "America good, Russia bad," so Rocky wins, and enjoy this 5 minute slice of montage heaven.
