10 Most Satisfying Harry Potter Movie Moments
7. Gryffindor Win The House Cup (The Philosopher’s Stone)
As the characters grow older, gaining house points falls into irrelevance, but it’s a pretty big deal when they’re eleven years old. Slytherin have dominated the competition for the past seven years, and all the Gryffindor First Years are keen to break this tradition.
Thanks to Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s midnight wanderings, Gryffindor lose 150 points and tank to the bottom of the league table. It seems inevitable that Slytherin will win again… until Professor Dumbledore decides to dish out some last-minute points at the end-of-year feast.
Ron and Hermione are gifted with 50 points apiece, and Harry receives 60. Neville is also given ten points, which puts Gryffindor out in front. As they cheer in celebration, the Slytherins hang their heads, and it’s particularly satisfying to see Malfoy’s disappointment as he throws his hat down in frustration.
Rather amusingly, Dumbledore also alters the decorations around the hall, changing the Slytherin colours into a wave of scarlet and gold and humiliating them even further.
