10 Most Shamefully Lazy Plot Resolutions In Movie History

2. Batman Survives A Neutron Bomb - The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Warner Bros. Pictures

After the titanic success of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, fans eagerly anticipated the release of his concluding chapter in his Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan's follow-up met with critical and commercial success upon its release with many critics lauding the ending as a fitting and deeply moving end to the Caped Crusader's story.

Despite the acclaim, some fans voiced their dissatisfaction with a few questionable plot choices Nolan made to get to the end of the story. In the climax of the feature, Batman must use his flying machine The Bat to transport a neutron bomb out of Gotham City. The Bat's broken autopilot system means it's a one way ticket for the Caped Crusader and Batman gets exploded along with the bomb. Or so audiences thought. It turns out Batman repaired the autopilot beforehand (somehow) and faked his own death so he could live a normal life free from his secret identity.

While this conclusion hit many audiences members square in the feels, others wondered how Batman managed to fix the autopilot when the challenge had stumped tech genius Lucius Fox. On top of this Batman had spent the preceding months trapped in a prison on the far side of the world so when did he get the time to orchestrate his fake death, rewrite his will, and leave clues for his protege John Blake to find the bat cave? The majority of fans seemed to be okay with minor plot quibbles and enjoyed the larger story Nolan told with his trilogy but others found the inconsistent plotting a disappointing way to end the stellar film series.
