10 Most Shocking Snubs In The 2022 Oscar Nominations

3. Alana Haim - Best Actress

House Of Gucci
Universal

The first in a trilogy of "Best Actress" snubs, Alana Haim shocked everyone by not only starring in a film but by being excellent in it. One third of iconic musical trio, HAIM, Alana ditched her microphone for... well, a different kind of microphone. She moved from music to film is the point here.

Directed by frequent collaborator and HAIM superfan, Paul Thomas Anderson, Haim starred in Licorice Pizza; a charmingly-quirky coming of age tale also featuring Cooper Hoffman, son of the late great Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Alana absolutely smashed it out of the park and everyone in Hollywood seemed to recognise that.

She gathered a healthy stack of nominations and could scoop some really big awards later this year. Sadly, one of those awards will not be an Oscar. Licorice Pizza is up for "Best Picture" and Anderson has his eyes on "Best Director", but there will be nothing for the multi-talented Alana.

There was so much goodwill behind Alana picking up a nomination, but goodwill does not an Oscar make. The silver lining here is that this is only the beginning of her time on screen, so expect big things to come going forward.
