10 Most Underrated 1990s Sci-Fi Movies

8. Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Calling Gremlins 2: The New Batch a divisive film wouldn't actually be that much of a criticism because, in all honesty, so was the first film. The problem with this 1991 sequel, however, was that in order to appease everyone, it ended up reversing the response - receiving praise from critics who felt the first was too dark and criticism from fans who loved its satirically dark tone.

Yes, it's true that Gremlins 2 lost much of what made the original so darn timeless, but in doing so, it also gained a lot too. The sequel's new tone is what ultimately carries it, resulting in a film that could have come off as little more than rehash actually proving itself to be a highly funny affair.

Furthermore, it benefits from a witty and clever script that is completely self-aware, allowing it to parody a host of other movies - including its own predecessor. And that, more than anything, makes it an absolute hoot.

It's not Gremlins, but it is its own monster - and an incredibly enjoyable one at that.
