10 Most Underrated 1990s Sci-Fi Movies

9. RoboCop 2

The RoboCop film series is a classic example of what happened to a lot of the superhero/action movie franchises between the '70s and '80s in that it started with an incredibly clever first film that wasn't afraid to push boundaries before the creative well had completely run dry by the third.

However, while we're busy praising the franchise opener for the graphic work of art that it is and berating RoboCop 3 for being, well, bad, we often tend to overlook the one that came in between.

RoboCop 2 is a far cry from the satirical action gem that its predecessor was, but at the same time, it's a mostly riveting follow-up that works well in its own way. Yes, it rehashes all of the 'clever' stuff from the first film and fails to execute it any kind of meaningful way, but as an action flick, it succeeds.

Without the 1987 original to compare this to, RoboCop 2 might have received a little more attention. Nonetheless, it functions as another standalone adventure in the life of the titular star, and if that's all you're looking for, then you'll probably end up enjoying it.
