10 Most Underrated Horror Movies Of 2019
5. Climax
I was lucky enough to catch Climax in 2018 (if you can call being subjected to 90 minutes of pure unadulterated misery and the cinematic equivalent of having your head kicked in 'lucky'), but Gasper Noe's psychedelic horror epic released in most territories at the start of this year - and it was more than worth the wait.
The director's films are often unwieldy and indulgent, but Climax is about as tight an experience you can expect from the French provocateur. The premise is simple: a dance troup are celebrating in their rehearsal studio, separated from the outside world by a vicious snow storm, and someone spikes the sangria they're all drinking with LSD.
Most of these people are s**theads without the drugs, and the paranoia of who the culprit is quickly gives way to ultraviolent lashing out, as the base desires of each character explodes to the service.
This is already a great premise for a horror, but considering it's all played against the backdrop of dance sequences as visceral as the violence and a soundtrack you'll be queing up on Spotify for months afterwards, it makes for something genuinely special.
