2. The Girl Next Door
The Girl Next Door is one of the most blatant examples of a film that was just not marketed properly. If you watch the trailers for this film, it seems like it's going to be a raunchy sex comedy full of porn stars unrealistically hooking up with teenage boys. And while yes, there are porn stars in the film, it is much more of a romantic comedy than people are willing to give it credit for. A high school overachiever falls in love with the new girl who just moved into the house next door to him, who has moved away from LA in an attempt to leave her former life as an adult film star behind. She teaches him to step out of his comfort zone and live a little bit, and he shows her the kind of affection and respect that she never got as in her old job. Honestly, it's sweeter than it really has any right to be. And yes, it has very obvious shades of Risky Business, so if you liked that, you'll like this.
