10 Most Underwhelming Summer Movies Of All Time
6. Batman & Robin
If you’re going to wreck a franchise, this is the way to do it – by camping everything up to the max. When not professing his love for his dying butler, Bruce Wayne wears a rubber suit with nipples and partners with Master Dick Grayson to fight hockey-playing minions in what looks like a neon-drenched set from a 1930s Universal horror movie.
The minions are in the employ of Mr Freeze, a supervillain who in one sequence wears panda slippers and a dressing gown adorned with polar bears while leading his men in a singalong inside a giant freezer. Even lamer is his attempt at tough guy talk: “My name is Freeze – learn it vell, for it izzz the chilling zzound of your doom!”
Speaking of the dialogue, several characters display an unwholesome interest in the downstairs department, from Poison Ivy’s talk of an “anatomically correct rubber suit” to Batman and Robin trading quips about her “buds” and “stems.”
If you didn’t know that director Joel Schumacher injected speed 6 times a day in the 1960s, you’d be able to guess from this movie.
