10 Movie Actors About To Play Totally Against Type
5. Daniel Craig As A Southern Detective - Knives Out
Before he returns to the role of James Bond for one final outing, Daniel Craig is suiting up to play one of his most distinctive roles to date in Rian Johnson's new murder-mystery Knives Out.
Craig plays Benoit Blanc, a southern-accented Poirot-esque detective who is investigating the death of mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer).
And having seen the film during its festival run, one can report that Craig gives quite probably the most hilariously against-type performance of his career.
If you loved his rare comedic turn in Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky a few years ago, his work here is even better.
Playing the role totally straight and committing fully to Blanc's ridiculous accent, Craig is the film's easy acting highlight, and could very well end up on the nominees list at the Golden Globes - though not the Oscars, sadly.
For an actor better known for his dramatic roles, it's great to see him flexing his comedic muscles, and doing it so damn well. Fingers crossed he gets more comedy offers off the back of the film's inevitable success.
