10 Movie Cameos So Well-Hidden Everybody Missed Them

2. Steven Spielberg (The Lost World: Jurassic Park)

The great Steven Spielberg is one of those directors who enjoys cameos in not just his own movies, but the movies made by his peers.

He's popped up in Gremlins, The Blues Brothers, and was even outed as an alien in the original Men In Black, but his most subtle cameo to date lies in one of his own projects, 1997's The Lost World - and it's so sneaky that it's not entirely clear whether the filmmaker even knew about it.

At the very end of that first Jurassic Park sequel, Ian Malcolm, Sarah, and Kelly watch a news broadcast about the cargo ship carrying the T-Rex and its infant. At a glance, there's nothing particularly noteworthy about this scene, but watch it in decent quality and crank up the brightness, and you might be able to spot none other than Mr. Spielberg himself, who is faintly reflected in the TV screen.

Was he fully aware of this when he filmed the scene? Or was it a total accident? Well, we don't know, but you have to imagine that a seasoned vet like Spielberg would have some idea that he might be caught on camera here.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
