Possum star Sean Harris put his nervous, shifty onscreen energy to great use before Matthew Holness’ deeply upsetting 2018 indie horror (seriously, steer clear of this one if you ever want to sleep again, turns out the Garth Marenghi creator has a far better talent for bleak terror than his earlier onscreen credits implied).
As Solomon Lane, a recurring villain who taunts Tom Cruise’s iconic hero Ethan Hunt in recent instalments of the Mission Impossible franchise, Harris has been a seething, stoic presence, the perfect antithesis to Cruise’s suave high energy heroics.
However the character has now appeared twice and been foiled by Ethan both times, but unlike most of the franchise’s many antagonists he had yet to suffer a violent fate at the hands of one of the IMF team. Now admittedly the nefarious villain was last seen being handed over to MI6, but it’s hard to imagine him staying in their grips for too long given his history of escapes and double crosses, so it’s only a matter of time before Ethan stops seeing Solomon only in nightmares and has a chance to end their rivalry once and for all.
