10 Movie Characters More Important Than You Think

7. Blades - Land of the Dead

Hereditary
Universal

Legendary horror makeup effects artist Tom Savini has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in George A. Romero's Land of the Dead as a leather-clad, machete-wielding zombie, and while this might seem like a fun wink-wink cameo at first glance, it's ultimately a little more than that.

Savini is actually playing Blades - a member of the motorcycle gang featured in Romero's Dawn of the Dead almost 30 years prior.

In Dawn of the Dead, Blades is a violent maniac who appears to die when Peter (Ken Foree) shoots him with a sniper rifle, sending him tumbling over one of the mall's railings.

That seemed to be the end of Blades, then, but in Land of the Dead we see him walking the Earth as a member of Big Daddy's (Eugene Clark) army of the undead. And to confirm it, Savini is indeed credited as the very same character.

While the timeline of Romero's Dead franchise is rather ambiguous, the clear implication is that Blades survived being shot in the mall, was subsequently bitten by a zombie, and has spent literally decades traipsing around Pennsylvania eating people.
