10 Movie Characters More Important Than You Think

8. Nana Schlieffen - Palm Springs

Hereditary
Hulu

Nana Schlieffen (June Squibb) is a minor and seemingly relatively inconsequential character in the brilliant time loop comedy Palm Springs, but if you pay a little closer attention to some of her dialogue, it sure seems like she's far more important than she at first appears.

There are several hints throughout the movie that Nana is herself in a time loop, such as when she says "I have been to more weddings in my life than you can imagine."

Later, she seems to lament when Sarah (Cristin Milioti) and Nyles (Andy Samberg) prepare to exit the loop at the end of the movie, and reading between the lines, she seems acutely aware of their predicament.

Though it hasn't strictly been confirmed by the filmmakers, the implication is rather clear - that Nana has somehow wound up in her own time loop and yet, unlike Sarah and Nyles, she seems quite content to re-live her family's wedding on repeat forever more at this stage of her life.
