3. Indiana Jones And Marion Ravenwood - Raiders Of The Lost Ark

One of the appeals of the Indiana Jones character is his combination of cool, sharp quick wittedness and ability to shoot or fight his way out of trouble - it's part of what's helped to define him as one of the most iconic movie heroes of all time. It's questionable whether or not either of these qualities come into play in the final moments of the first installment of the series, Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Having been captured by the Nazis after trying - and failing - to prevent them from getting their hands on the Ark of the Covenent, all he can do as they open the mythical box is close his eyes, since the bad guys have tied him to a post. Nevertheless, simply standing there and doing literally nothing is all that's required of him to save himself from bursting into flames at the hands of the angels of death which spew forth killing everyone else around him. It another literal deus ex machina conveniently coming to the rescue at the last minute.
