10 Movie Characters That Sequels Totally Forgot
7. Hogun - Thor: The Dark World
The vast cast of the MCU has seen plenty of actors drift from central roles to complete absence and back again. The entire cast of The Incredible Hulk just disappeared for years until William Hurt returned out of nowhere as General Thunderbolt Ross. Iron Man and Pepper Potts, and Thor and Jane Foster broke up off screen, only for the women to re-emerge as Rescue and the new Thor respectively. It is another Thor character, however, who best reflects the trope of the franchise forgotten man.
Hogun the Grim, the stoical member of the Asgardian hero's sidekick trio The Warriors Three, isn't one of the leads of Kenneth Branagh's original Thor movie, but still plays an important part fighting side by side with the God of Thunder at the beginning and end of the story.
Come sequel The Dark World, however, and two of the Warriors Three still have a role to play, but Hogun is conspicuously absent almost throughout. One early scene reveals him really to be from Vanaheim, where Thor fights in the opening sequence, so he just gets left there for the rest of the movie.
Hogun did make a very brief appearance in the third film, Ragnarok, outlasting his fellow warriors momentarily before he too was dispatched with little effort by the film's villain Hela.
