10 Movie Characters That Sequels Totally Forgot

6. Lois Lane - Superman III

Richard Donner's original Superman movie didn't just sell us on believing a man can fly. It also got us behind the Clark Kent-Lois Lane relationship like no modern Superman movie has. Much of that has to do with Margot Kidder's fiery, sparky performance, still the best big screen Lois.

Kidder's Lois was vital enough to the franchise and its hero for him to literally turn back time in order to save her. By Superman III, however, she gets all of twelve lines in the entire movie, most of which only serve to pack her off on vacation to Bermuda. Lois misses out on all the movie's significant action, which instead pairs Supes with Lana Lang.

Rumour has it that Superman III decided essentially to forget about Lois because Kidder had objected to Donner being fired from Superman II and his being replaced by Richard Lester, who also directed the third film.

While Superman III's production team have denied it, it's worth noting that Lois was back for Superman IV once that was taken on by different producers. Given how that movie turned out, though, perhaps Kidder could be forgiven for hoping that she really had been completely forgotten.
