10 Movie Characters That Sequels Totally Forgot

2. Rose Tico - Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

One of the most controversial characters in one of the most controversial movies in recent memory, Resistance engineer Rose Tico doesn't actually do a lot that would seem to merit that title.

In The Last Jedi Rose is essentially the everyman character, an ordinary person swept up in the grand events of the story when she goes off on her own side quest with one of the franchise leads, Finn. She even got pushed as a potential romantic interest for the former stormtrooper, sharing a kiss with him in the movie's final scenes.

In last month's follow-up and the finale of the whole Skywalker Saga, however, Rose was almost nowhere to be seen. One estimate has her entire screentime in The Rise Of Skywalker down to 76 seconds. In her tiny handful of lines all that Rose seems to do is actively refuse to join our heroes on their adventure.

She even got pushed aside as a possible love interest for Finn (and not by fanfic fave Poe), thanks to the addition of new character, and basically Finn's female counterpart, Jannah.

It has been widely suggested that Rise Of Skywalker forgot all about Rose through a combination of director JJ Abrams preferring his own original characters and a response to some of the backlash the character and her casino planet side plot received in The Last Jedi.

If that is true, though, it's an approach that didn't really work as Rose's demotion did nothing but irritate Last Jedi fans without really placating its haters.
