10 Movie Characters Who Became Total Caricatures In Sequels
5. Gimli
The Lord Of The Rings trilogy is one of those film trilogies where it's legitimately hard to find anything to complain about without sounding like a pedantic !*$%. Every detail down to the most insignificant casting choice and set design quirk feels fussed over to perfection.
But if you had to find something legitimately wrong with this trilogy, it would be how they treated Gimli in the second and third films.
In the first film he had his comedic moments and was clearly meant to be the loud boisterous one of the group, but he was also intelligent, a great warrior, and incredibly dignified.
In the second and especially in the third film, they make him into much more of a joke. Which would be fine if the other characters felt like joining in. But besides the odd line here and there such as Gandalf over preparing Pippin for meeting the king of Gondor, the role of comic relief goes solely to Gimli. Removing the dignity that made him so likable in the first film.
