10 Movie Characters Who Broke Their Own Rules
9. Columbus - Zombieland
From one apocalyptic world to another, though while A Quiet Place was populated with aliens who would kill at the slightest sounds, Zombieland (as the name suggests), was threatened with your more traditional walking dead.
Much of the film is based around Columbus' (Jesse Eisenberg) list of rules, and he even narrates many of them for the audience. Number One, Cardio. Number Two, Double Tap. Number Three, Be Wary of Bathrooms, and so on. These were the sole contributing factors for Columbus' survival, but he ultimately still broke more than one of them.
Rule Seven was Travel Light. While this referred to physical load, it was also a reminder to carry as little emotional baggage as possible. You can't lose any loved ones if you don't love anyone, kind of thing. Of course, this went out the window as he found his new family in Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock (Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin).
Rule 17 was more obviously broken. Originally reading Don't Be a Hero, explained when he let Tallahassee enter a potentially dangerous store first instead of trying to impress Wichita, it was broken completely when he ran head first into almost certain death to save her from a hoard of zombies at Pacific Playland. Some rules were meant to be broken, even the most important.
