10 Movie Characters Who Died Breaking Their Own Rules

1. Darwin - X-Men: First Class

The Rule: Adapt to withstand enemy attacks.

Unquestionably one of the most under-served characters in the entire X-Men movie saga is Darwin (Edi Gathegi), a minor character in X-Men: First Class with the ability to evolve reactively according to whatever conditions he encounters.

It's an awesome power and one which blatantly implied that Darwin would both be extremely difficult to kill and also be sticking around for the long haul.

Except, the very essence of Darwin's power set was quickly cancelled out, then, when villain Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) showed up mid-film and forced one of Havok's (Lucas Till) energy blasts into him, bafflingly causing his adaptive abilities to fail, turning him into a pile of ash.

Given that the comics show Darwin to be an incredibly powerful and potentially immortal mutant, this total non-event of a death felt like a direct contradiction of the established "rules" for him and everything fans loved about Darwin in the first place. Terrible.
