3. Dr Strangelove - Dr Strangelove
Don’t let the fact that Dr Strangelove was present in the War Room when civilization came to an end put you off – he’s really quite a brilliant scientist with a sharp, analytical mind.
Recruited by the US government at the end of WWII, Dr Merkwurdigliebe changed his name to Strangelove and took up a position as President Merkin Muffley’s Scientific Advisor. He occasionally forgets his surroundings, though, and refers to the President as “Mein Fuhrer” or gives a Nazi salute.
For Strangelove, nuclear holocaust isn’t the end – it’s an opportunity. Because the future of the human race is at stake, Strangelove has a rapt audience when he announces his plan to retreat underground, where the continuance of the species will be guaranteed by the provision of ten women for each man.
