10 Movie Cliches That Need To Stop
5. "Bond, James Bond" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky5BC3-qwGM James Bond might have been the property that started it, but to be fair, it's such a classic element of the Bond mythos - albeit one that has been fazed out in the recent films - that we can sort of let it go. Bond didn't start off particularly realistic, and it's only during the recent grittier instalments where this silly utterance hasn't been used, but the whole "Last name, Full name" introduction just seems absurd and incongruous in other films. Even relatively down-to-Earth dramas will have characters say it, when nobody in real life would ever speak like that. Have you ever had anyone introduce themselves to you as "Bloggs, Joe Bloggs" other than as a joke? It's convoluted, pointless, and completely disobeys the way real people talk. Any time a film, action, drama, thriller, horror or comedy, has this cringe-inducing utterance, I am immediately pulled right out of the scene. Dreadful.
