10 Movie Details That Aren’t As Important As You Think

7. Edward Bloom's Stories - Big Fish

Like Inception, the 2003 film Big Fish isn't about what's real or not, it's about what people choose to believe.

Directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish tells the story of the fractured relationship between father and son, Edward and Will Bloom. Edward is famous for telling fantastical stories about his own life, including run-ins with giants, a werewolf, and a mysterious town.

His stories delight his friends, but Will is less than impressed. He just wants to know the truth about his father's past and the two grow distant because of this.

When he learns that his father is dying, Will reconnects with him to finally distinguish fact from fiction. However, over the course of Big Fish, the younger Bloom learns to accept his father's eccentricities and even tells some wild stories of his own to help Edward pass peacefully.

Will's view of his father is challenged once again at his funeral, when less exaggerated versions of the characters from his stories turn up to pay their respects. Still full of questions, Will ultimately realises that the stories weren't important, but the person who told them was.
