Field of Dreams' most widely-parodied scene involves a disembodied voice whispering to protagonist Ray (Kevin Costner), "If you build it, he will come," yet more than 35 years since the film's release, did you know that said voice still hasn't been officially identified?

For years fans have speculated on who provided the iconic voice, which is credited simply as being played by "himself," with many believing it to be either Kevin Costner himself or co-star Ray Liotta.

W.P. Kinsella, the author of the original novel, was meanwhile told that it was Ed Harris - the husband of one of the film's stars, Amy Madigan - yet many remain convinced that the voice is in fact Mark Hamill.

The film's writer-director, Phil Alden Robinson, talked about the mystery back in 2019, noting that he hasn't heard anyone guess the correct name yet, while refusing to elaborate on the identity of the voice, preferring for it to instead remain a tantalising enigma for the ages.

That's... both brilliant and infuriating.
