10 Movie Facts You Probably Don’t Know

5. There's A Slide Whistle Sound Effect When Dennis Nedry Slips Over - Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is an undeniable marvel of sound design, even if it uses some rather unconventional elements to create its soundscape - such as, famously, recording two mating tortoises for the sounds of the raptors communicating in the kitchen.

But here's one that'll ensure you never quite see - or hear, rather - the movie the same way again.

During the scene where Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) crashes his jeep while trying to escape the island and is killed by a Dilophosaurus, listen closely when he slips over in the rain.

Yep, that's the sound of a slide whistle alright.

Despite Jurassic Park winning an Oscar for its largely peerless sound design work, for some reason the team decided to add a bafflingly cartoonish slide whistle sound into the mix at this point.

Once you know it's there, it's incredibly hard to ignore, and makes it tough to take the moment of Nedry's demise seriously at all. So, uh, sorry about that.
