10 Movie Franchises That Actually Ended On A High
3. Planet Of The Apes Reboot
When 20th Century Fox announced plans to reboot the Planet Of The Apes franchise, people were understandably put off. After all, they tried once before with Tim Burton, and we don't talk about that movie. However, when Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes finally came out in 2011, it received universal acclaim for its brilliant reinvention of the classic science fiction tale.
Of course, being a reboot, these movies went in quite a different direction, opting to demonstrate how the apes evolved and how humanity eventually lost the fight for dominance over the earth.
From Rise, to Dawn and ending with War For The Planet Of The Apes, we watch humanity slowly lose more and more ground to their simian overlords, with hero Caesar trying to find the right balance between protecting his people, and finding some form of peace with the humans that are left.
This reboot trilogy knew exactly when to end.
We technically know how the story ends with these movies, so the reboot wisely decides not to show too much of what we essentially already know. And I won't spoil the ending, but rest assured, it is perfectly fitting for a story this excellently told.
