He encompasses what it means to be a comic book hero. Bright blue tights, red pants and a crimson cape. However, Warner Brothers felt that after the success of Christopher Nolans Dark Knight Trilogy, this character needed a reboot. Apparently the symbol of hope had to become darker to bring him cinematic success. Man of Steel was released in 2013, and this reboot would have been completely understandable if we had not been given Superman Returns in 2006. This semi reboot paid homage to Christopher Reeves take on the character but altered some of the continuity. Man of Steel was released when most people had seen this film, and thus they were aware of the way to make a reasonable Superman film. Bryan Singers film was not well received, but it captured the tone of Superman remarkably well. It was bright enough to show the symbolic importance of Superman, but it was gritty enough to succeed in the modern age. Seven years seems like enough time for a reboot, but with such a hugely iconic character this was wrong. Man of Steel was not terrible, but such a radical shift in tone for the planets most popular superhero was too much change in too little time.
