10 Movie Franchises With Epic Crossover Events

Now we come to the most oddball entry of the list. Coming seemingly out of nowhere to resurrect Lake Placid, pairing up with Anaconda made for some mindless entertainment. The two franchises had always been trashy b-movies that weren't taken too seriously. They were lambasted by critics and met with better reception from audiences thanks to their focus on humour.

It's all about a giant crocodile and anaconda duking it out with some hapless humans caught in the middle. In many ways the 2015 film is a throwback to all those corny sci-fi releases of the 1950s; ridiculous productions that are designed as mere entertainment. This was further emphasised by its small-scale premiere on the Syfy channel, rather than a full release in movie theatres.

Lake Placid vs Anaconda sits on the middle ground in terms of quality. It's certainly no cinematic masterpiece, nor does it cross into unwatchable territory. Instead it's a flick that gives you exactly what it says on the turn, falling into the same category as the equally laughable Sharknado franchise.

With the Monsterverse having superseded it, both franchises are unlikely to see another entry anytime soon, though Lake Placid had one more run with Legacy in 2018.
