10 Movie Heroes Completely Outmatched By The Villain
2. Luke Skywalker Vs. Darth Vader - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
By the time Luke and co. take a trip to Jabba's palace and free Han from the Hutt's evil grasp, young Skywalker is a bonafide Jedi master. It's unclear where he got his training between episodes five and six, but there can be no denying just how much he upped his game.
During The Empire Strikes Back however, Luke was a novice with barely any training at all. Obi-Wan sent him to Yoda in the Dagobah System, true, but even then, he left with his training incomplete so he could save Han and Leia from Vader on Bespin.
And so, when he came up against his daddy dearest in Cloud City, he was way off pace.
Anakin was a Jedi Master, one of the best to ever wield a lightsaber, and Luke was not. Skywalker junior may have defended himself and even got a good hit or two in during the fight, but he was never in any real danger of defeating his father.
Vader said it himself - the Force was with Luke, but he was not yet a Jedi. Instead of a fight between two equals, Luke fled with one less hand than when he started, and this was Vader trying to recruit him. Imagine how quickly Luke would've died if his father was actively trying to kill him.
