5. PC Danny Butterman - Hot Fuzz
Why Is He An Idiot? When overzealous police sergeant Nicholas Angel is relocated to sleepy Sandford, he is partnered with ice cream and action film lover Danny Butterman, whose only realistic method of staying in the force is the fact that his father is the Inspector. Danny is less enthused about real police work as he is fascinated with the world of action film cops, fantasizing Bad Boys II and Point Break and worshiping Angel with schoolboy love (the best scenes to see the Pegg/Frost bromance in full swing).
Top Idiotic Moment After sitting through 'two hours of so-called acting', the partners-in-fighting-crime meet the main cast of Sanford's rendition of Romeo and Juliet: Martin Blower and his younger, seemingly romantic partner, Eve Draper. However, Danny quickly shoots down Angel's theory that the pair are in love, only to come back with a seriously TMI quote. If you've seen Hot Fuzz, you'll know it, if you haven't, I'll leave you to discover it and Angel's amazing reaction.
How He Saved the Day After the NWA (That's Neighborhood Watch Association, not that other thing) start a mass shootout, Danny finally sees his dream of being in an action movie come true in a sequence with as many throwbacks to Cop films as Scream has to Slashers. He and Angel fight their way through Sandford without killing a single person, and eventually confront Danny's father, the perpetrator of the local killings. After being held at gunpoint, Danny finds himself with a sight on his Dad but, living up to Angel's real-police idea, gets to live out Point Break and does not kill him. He saves the day, saves Angel and saves his village, and all without taking a life. Not bad for a guy who's main concern is the spot in the brain that makes it blow up.
