It ain't over 'til it's over... or until 'The Italian Stallon' suddenly opts to throw the damn fight!

And while it may be a little hard to believe that there was ever a moment in time when the greatest underdog in movie history was willing to throw away his shot at glory, that was exactly what Sylvester Stallone originally had in mind for Rocky Balboa.

Within the first draft he wrote for the eventual 1976 hit, with the eventual megastar incredibly producing 90-pages in just three days, Sly noted (via THR) how things were initially much darker for the future boxing icon.

On top of being "very street-like and unrepentant", traits that Stallone's then-wife claimed made Rocky seem "nasty", Balboa would've originally decided to throw his climactic bout with Apollo Creed in the end "because he doesn’t want to be involved in this kind of world."

So, had Stallone not gone back and "re-wrote and re-wrote", there's a good chance one of the most beloved underdog tales of all time would've never gone on to capture the imaginations of people all around the globe. And when all was said and done, "maybe 10%" of that first draft was present in the finished screenplay that ultimately earned Stallone an Academy Award nomination.
