10 Movie Mysteries With Annoyingly Simple Answers
5. Who Won The Deciding Fight? - Rocky III
After being handed the prize fight that was way out of his league, Rocky Balboa captured the hearts of the entire nation in 1976's Rocky, and though he lost to Apollo Creed, he would beat Apollo for the Championship fair and square in the rematch. This was a rivalry for the ages.
The two went on to become friends and colleagues, as Creed trained Rocky for his rematch against Clubber Lang in Rocky III. However, the big talking point of the third Rocky movie wasn't Mr. T's vicious brawler, it was the deciding fight Rocky had with Creed behind closed doors.
The two went to the ring to square off for a third and decisive time, though as the freeze frame ending would suggest, the victor didn't matter. They were both winners, they respected each other, and they were as closely matched in their chosen sport as could be imagined.
You'd be forgiven for thinking Rocky might have explained this to Adonis when asked about the fight in the first Creed movie, but that wasn't the case. In a very blunt answer to the question Donnie asked, Rocky confirmed that Apollo won. Michael B. Jordan's character even prefaced the question by saying they were basically family, knowing that anyone outside of that bond shouldn't have known the answer. Maybe he was right.
