10 Movie Recasts That Totally Trolled Fans
5. James Rhodes (Iron Man 2)
"Look, it's me. I'm here. Deal with it."
Those were the first words spoken by James Rhodes in the MCU. Wait, no, scratch that, those were the first words spoken by Don Cheadle's James Rhodes in the MCU.
It's a well-documented fact that Terrence Howard dropped out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to disputes over pay and creative difficulties, leaving the door open for Cheadle to swoop in. When it came to highlighting the sudden changes that happened to Rhodey in Iron Man 2, Cheadle just straight up told everyone to "deal with it".
This line was, of course, delivered to Tony Stark, but it was clearly a double-edged sword, slicing a direct line into the audience as well. It was almost as if Cheadle was waiting for fans to start complaining, so he slapped them with a healthy dose of reality before they could even get the ball rolling. Well played, sir, well played.
It's a great introduction to the man who would become War Machine and easily one of the MCU's best meta moments - and if you had a problem with it, Rhodey didn't care!
