To this day, Animal House sets the bar for the college campus comedy. It firmly established the jocks vs. outcasts (or elites vs. blue-collar, depending on the school), made a hero out of human time-bomb John Belushi and ended in a glorious blow-out so futilely rebellious no film has surpassed it.

The object was never about achievement, it was about striking a blow for the unspoken masses, the weed-tokers gathered in a tweed jacket-clad Donald Sutherland's house, the draft-dodgers, the ones who didn't just thank their superiors and ask for another.

Take, for instance, the moment Bluto (Belushi) winks at the camera while spying on a sorority pillow fight.

At the very least, Animal House has the good sense to stop a character from having intercourse with a drunk girl who passes out at a party, though he does get handsy. Most of the female cast are treated lasciviously, or as coldly shrewdish.
