10 Movie Sequels Stuck In Production Hell

1. Indiana Jones 5

Live Die Repeat
LucasFilm

On the release of Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull back in 2008, Harrison Ford said that he'd be happy to return as the whip-cracking archaeological adventurer provided a new sequel didn't take another twenty years to develop. It may not have hit twenty years yet, but it's getting ever closer!

In the immediate aftermath of Crystal Skull a sequel was rumoured to be ready to go, with Shia LaBeouf returning as Indy's son Mutt alongside Ford in an adventure involving the Bermuda Triangle. This, though, was thrown out by Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, especially as that didn't initially include distribution rights to Indiana Jones.

In 2013 Disney picked up those distribution rights as well, restarting the discussion around a fifth film. And in 2016 they announced that Indiana Jones 5 would be released in the summer of 2019 with Spielberg making it his next directorial job after Ready Player One.

And then that date kept getting pushed back again and again as nobody could settle on a story. An early idea from Crystal Skull writer David Koepp was thrown out. Jonathan Kasdan (son of original Indy scripter Lawrence) wrote his own version based around the lost Walbrzych Nazi gold train before that too was discarded.

The film, which probably no longer has a place for LaBoeuf but definitely does have Ford still attached despite Lucasfilm briefly toying with a reboot and a younger Indy, looks likely to miss its next announced release date in July 2021. But it is inching slowly towards maybe coming together within Ford's two decade window with Koepp back on board and coming up with a new story.

Do we still want it to, though, given the mixed response to Disney's handling of Star Wars and Ford not looking any younger?

In fact, which, if any, of these would you actually like to see finally do a Bill And Ted and actually arrive on our screens? Let us know in the comments.
