10 Movie Sequels That Failed To Recapture The Magic

7. Basic Instinct 2

Zoolander 2 Ben Stiller

A lot of the entries here sound wrong. American Psycho 2, Mean Girls 2, and now Basic Instinct 2. The 2 looks unnatural and out of place. Almost as if there shouldn't have ever been a sequel to these films.

Basic Instinct 2 falls in to the trap relying too heavily on its star in Sharon Stone. That's not to say that Stone doesn't do well. Instead, she does too well that it shines a spotlight on how far ahead of everyone else she is.

Stone acts circles around co-star David Morrissey, and the supporting cast don't fare too well either. Production was supposedly plagued with casting issues, with both the studio and Stone being extra picky about who they were working with. Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, and Pierce Brosnan were all rejected, and it wasn't just actors either. Directors also came and went, being dismissed from production, and Stone even filed a lawsuit against the film's producers for delaying production because they couldn't agree on a male lead.

All the backstage drama surrounding the production, is actually more interesting than the movie itself.
