10 Movie Sequels That Failed To Recapture The Magic
8. Space Jam: A New Legacy
The original Space Jam may not be a critically acclaimed cinematic masterpiece, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone that grew up in the 1990s who doesn't have some fond memories of it. Nostalgia could be a big part of that, and some of the jokes might not hold up, but Space Jam will forever hold a place in many people's hearts.
Unfortunately, this makes it difficult for fans to view Space Jam: A New Legacy with the same fondness. The rose-tinted glasses are off and the sequel seems more like a giant marketing stunt for both Warner Bros. and its live-action star, Lebron James. The characters and the acting are forgettable on the live-action front, and the Tune Squad don't do enough to carry the film.
While this criticism may feel overly harsh as the picture is targeted at a younger audience who might not care about intricate character development or a thought-provoking plot, it's hard to imagine that the sequel will leave a lasting impact a couple decades down the line, the way that MJ and the Tune Squad did the first time around.
