10 Movie Sequels That Just Copied The Original

I know, I know – everybody loves T2, James Cameron is a visionary filmmaker and criticising either is worse than laughing at the “jokes” in Terminator Genisys.

But have a think on this: the only reason Cameron returned to the well was because his previous film, The Abyss, went belly up at the box office. He needed a hit and because Arnold Schwarzenegger was the #1 action movie star in the world, reteaming with him for a sequel seemed like a no-brainer.

It’s the the same story on a $100 million budget, so instead of a human protector and a T-800, a “kinder, gentler” T-800 and a terminator made from liquid metal travel through time, which allows Cameron to show off the CG effects he developed for The Abyss. Instead of a car chase through a parking garage, there’s a truck chase through a storm drain. Instead of attempting to kill Sarah in a police station, the bad terminator tries to kill her in a mental hospital etc.

“Original” ideas such as Cyberdyne discovering Terminator technology and Sarah proposing they destroy the company were conceived for the first film – check the deleted scenes on your Terminator DVD.
