10 Movie Sequels That Were Sent Out To Die
3. Don't Breathe 2
Catching just about everyone off-guard upon its frightening debut in cinemas back in 2016, Fede Álvarez's unsettling home invasion with a sickening twist horror flick, Don't Breathe, managed to come home with both a staggering $157 million from the box office on a $9 million budget and a string of wholly positive reviews.
This being the modern movie business, a second outing for Stephen Lang's disturbing and deeply layered war veteran was pretty much a formality. Yet, instead of doubling down on the monstrous qualities of an individual tragically warped and crippled by the Gulf War, the odd decision was made to shift a still-magnetic Lang's Norman Nordstrom into more of a misunderstood anti-hero role in last year's Don't Breathe 2.
The end results simply didn't click in quite the same way as before, with Nordstrom's dreadful deeds of the prior entry souring any and all heroic acts seen in Rodo Sayagues' less-acclaimed sequel.
Opening alongside the likes of box office smash Free Guy likely didn't help its cause either. But a much more modest, yet still commendable, $47 million taking this time around highlighted the overall lack of buzz or support conjured up for the unexpected hit's continuation.
